LG dump Passive 3D technology and go Active for consumers!

March 11, 2010 Featured News No Comments

Lg has just announced their new 3DTV for release in May – and it’s not what was initially expected!  It was a long held belief that the company would release their LD920 Passive 3DTV in the UK to co-incide with Sky launching their 3D service. Well that is still very much the case, just that it will be to pubs and clubs only.  The reasoning is fairly straight forward in that the passive glasses cost less than a couple of quid and are ideal for locations such as pubs where Sky will show major sporting events using the LD920 TVs.  For the consumer, LG has announced a completely new TV that will feature the active shutter glasses instead.

Using full array LED backlighting technology the LG LX9900 will be available in 47 and 55inch versions and uses active 3D technology.  The TVs will be fully compatible with Sky 3D and the new 3D Blu-ray format for movies.  You will be able to buy the LX9900 from May this year, but you also need to buy the glasses separately. Here are the known specs so far…

LX9900 (47 & 55″)

Features:

  • Infinia Design
  • Ultra slim depth & narrow design
  • Full HD 1080p
  • 3DTV (active)
  • Built in HD Freeview
  • TruMotion 400Hz
  • 10,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio
  • Picture Wizard II
  • Intelligent Sensor
  • Invisible Speaker (10w + 10w)
  • Clear Voice II
  • Netcast
  • Eco Flower
  • Wireless AV link
  • Bluetooth
  • DLNA
  • USB 2.0 (DivX HD, MP3, Jpeg play)
  • 4XHDMI

The LG Full LED Infinia LX9900 series is a whole new type of TV and provides the ultimate in home entertainment with better picture quality, ultra slim single layer Infinia design and more eco friendly features. Add access to your favourite internet content such as free Skype to Skype calling and youtube as well as being 3D Ready – the LX9 Infinia TV series from LG will take your home entertainment experience to a whole new level.

The LX9900 will be released in the UK in May.

Review: LG 15EL9500 OLED HDTV

OLED TV, it’s the future. Well that is what we’ve been told for the last 5 years, at least. However, it seems to have taken longer than anticipated for the technology to mature and develop and yet, even now, large screen sizes are still technically difficult to manufacture, with an acceptable lifespan and failure rate. [...]

Review: Philips 37PFL7605 LED LCD HDTV
