News: Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 loudspeaker system

February 5, 2010 Featured News No Comments

Boston Acoustics has announced the release of their new SoundWare XS 5.1 speaker system, here are the full details…

The SoundWare XS 5.1 loudspeaker system is an ultra-compact 5.1 speaker system that brings a new level of style and substance, for the price, to the surround sound market.
It allows users to enjoy rich, room-filling surround sound with their home entertainment systems, while complementing virtually any decor in a stylish, yet subtle (even virtually
unnoticeable, if desired) manner.
The system’s five ultra-compact – they are easily held in the palm of your hand – SoundWare XS satellites are real two-way speakers (unlike many competitors). Each features a high performance 2 1/2-inch (64mm) woofer and a 1/2-inch (13mm) tweeter. The design features Boston Acoustics’ signature polyhedron shape, for a cleaner sound by reducing standing waves.
The satellites also embrace a unique articulating mounting bracket, which allows for an unprecedented range of easy and flexible placement options, while the designs can be painted
to match any décor or even placed outside, thanks to their weather proof build.
The subwoofer, matching the satellites in either black or white, features a 100-watt (250 watts peak) amplifier and 8-inch (20cm) graphite injected polymer woofer. This utilizes Deep Channel® Design (DCD) – a method for designing the magnetics of the loudspeaker motor structure to optimally use materials to obtain the greatest stroke of the woofer unit – for more bass from less amplifier power. Meanwhile, the company’s proprietary BassTrac® circuit tracks and controls low frequencies to keep the bass clean, tight, and distortion-free at all listening levels. The design has an acoustically tuned port for improved bass output.
The SoundWare XS 5.1 speaker system delivers exceptionally articulate on-screen dialogue, music, effects, and room-filling bass from a small, sleek package. Compact driver placement, high quality components, and system-specific crossovers assure a wide uniform dispersion for complete coverage of a listening room.
Wall brackets are included for easy installation of all five satellite speakers.
Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1. Suggested retail price: £399.90. Available now.

Review: LG 15EL9500 OLED HDTV

OLED TV, it’s the future. Well that is what we’ve been told for the last 5 years, at least. However, it seems to have taken longer than anticipated for the technology to mature and develop and yet, even now, large screen sizes are still technically difficult to manufacture, with an acceptable lifespan and failure rate. [...]

Review: Philips 37PFL7605 LED LCD HDTV

Philips has had a habit of doing things their own way and releasing TVs with features not seen from any other manufacturer. Just look at their 21:9 LCD TV, for example. But doing things your own way can sometimes fly in the face of how things should be done. So with that in mind we [...]

Review: Onkyo TX-SR608 AV Receiver

Everybody wants everything these days. Each year the consumer electronics industry feeds us with new reasons to render our latest pride and joy obsolete, which gives us ever-lengthening lists of features that (we think) we need. The problem is that expectations are so high we get upset when we don’t get it. Receivers seem to [...]

Review: Sharp LC-40CT2E LCD HDTV

With all the ‘Quattron’ advertising in the press and online, and with Sulu on the TV, you could be forgiven for thinking that Sharp were repositioning themselves as a high-end, high price, brand. But as you can see from the model we have here for review, the Aquos range of TVs for 2010 also includes [...]

Review: LG LE8900 (47LE8900) LED LCD HDTV Review

Over the last few years I have been impressed by LG’s attempts to both produce more accurate displays and include comprehensive calibration controls. Obviously LG has had no choice but to jump on the same band wagons as the other manufacturers and this has seen them introduce 200Hz processing, LED backlighting, ultra slim designs, localised [...]

Review: Paradigm Signature Sub 1

At the inaugural National Hi-fi Show, in 2009, there were some impressive demonstrations, in what was a stereo hi-fi dominated show. It wasn’t without its AV highlights with several traditional hi-fi, plus some more naturally AV focused manufacturers, demoing full multi-channel systems to varying degrees of success. As I wrote on the AV Enthusiast Blog, [...]
