News: IXOS XEN XHT668 High-Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet

February 5, 2010 Featured News No Comments

Ixos has launched the new XEN XHT668 high speed HDMI cable with Ethernet in the UK.  Claiming to be first to market with a cable capable of reaching the v1.4 spec (although see the other cable story today for an alternative) a 1.5m length will set you back a whopping £130.  So what does your money buy you?

Here are the PR details…

The new IXOS Certified High Definition 2160p Quad-HD XHT668 HDMI cable, is designed to work with all HDMI v1.4 components including those with Ethernet capabilities.
- Proprietary Nitrogen Gas-Injected Polyethylene Dielectric: Significantly reduced the Dielectric Constant to maintain the precise impedance to transfer HDMI 1.4 Category 2 with
Ethernet signals flawlessly.
- Ultra-high-conductivity, Silver Plated Pure Crystal Oxygen-Free Copper (PC-OFC) conductors, easily accommodate the significantly increased bandwidth required to transmit Quad-HD (2160p) and 3D digital Video.
- 24K Gold Plated conductors prevent oxidisation for longevity and durability.
- Patented 4-Layer PCB Board in the plug, increases and maintains the distance between solder points, thus stabilising impedance and improving performance.
- * £129.99 for 1.5m – other lengths and pricing to follow shortly
HDMI v1.4 BENEFITS AND FEATURES

HDMI Ethernet Channel The Ethernet Channel allows an Internet-enabled HDMI device to share its Internet connection with other HDMI devices without the need for a separate Ethernet cable. The Ethernet will also allow HDMI- enabled devices to share content.
Audio Return Channel The new Audio Return Channel allows the HDTV to send the audio stream to the A/V receiver over the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for extra audio cables.
3D Over HDMI The 1.4 specifications will standardise the input/output portion of the home 3D system and will specify up to dual-stream 1080p resolution.
4K x 2K Resolution Support The new specification enables HDMI devices to support high-HD resolutions four times beyond today’s max of 1080p.
Formats supported include:
3840×2160 24Hz/25Hz/30Hz
4096×2160 24Hz
Expanded Support For Colour Spaces HDMI technology now supports colour spaces designed specifically for digital still cameras.

Review: LG 15EL9500 OLED HDTV

OLED TV, it’s the future. Well that is what we’ve been told for the last 5 years, at least. However, it seems to have taken longer than anticipated for the technology to mature and develop and yet, even now, large screen sizes are still technically difficult to manufacture, with an acceptable lifespan and failure rate. Review: Philips 37PFL7605 LED LCD HDTV

Philips has had a habit of doing things their own way and releasing TVs with features not seen from any other manufacturer. Just look at their 21:9 LCD TV, for example. But doing things your own way can sometimes fly in the face of how things should be done. So with that in mind we [...]

Review: Onkyo TX-SR608 AV Receiver

Everybody wants everything these days. Each year the consumer electronics industry feeds us with new reasons to render our latest pride and joy obsolete, which gives us ever-lengthening lists of features that (we think) we need. The problem is that expectations are so high we get upset when we don’t get it. Receivers seem to [...]

Review: Sharp LC-40CT2E LCD HDTV

With all the ‘Quattron’ advertising in the press and online, and with Sulu on the TV, you could be forgiven for thinking that Sharp were repositioning themselves as a high-end, high price, brand. But as you can see from the model we have here for review, the Aquos range of TVs for 2010 also includes [...]

Review: LG LE8900 (47LE8900) LED LCD HDTV Review

Over the last few years I have been impressed by LG’s attempts to both produce more accurate displays and include comprehensive calibration controls. Obviously LG has had no choice but to jump on the same band wagons as the other manufacturers and this has seen them introduce 200Hz processing, LED backlighting, ultra slim designs, localised [...]

At the inaugural National Hi-fi Show, in 2009, there were some impressive demonstrations, in what was a stereo hi-fi dominated show. It wasn’t without its AV highlights with several traditional hi-fi, plus some more naturally AV focused manufacturers, demoing full multi-channel systems to varying degrees of success. As I wrote on the AV Enthusiast Blog, [...]
