Philips 2010 HDTV models for the UK to be 3D Ready
Philips has just announced details of it’s 2010 HDTV models due for release in the UK from late summer time.Heading up the TV range are LED backlit LCD models in the 7000, 8000 and 9000 series.
The 7000 series TV range will feature edge lit backlighting along with Net TV, Ethernet connection, Wi-Fi dongle and a flat design. PC content will be compatible with use of DNLA 1.5/Windows 7 and all the new sets will be HDMI 1.4 compliant.
The 8000 and 9000 series LED LCD TVs will use active 3D technology using a wireless transmitter and active shutter glasses. However, to gain 3D playback you will have to invest in the 3D pack sold separately from the TVs. Philips say this approach allows the consumer to chose whether to buy just the TV as a 2D device or add in the 3D capabilities. Sony has recently announced a similar approach for two of its new lines of TVs.
And it’s not just normal 16:9 3D TV from Philips this year either, as they plan to launch a 3D ready version of the 21:9 cinemascope TV as well.
There are no prices or confirmed release dates for the TV range, however we do have the size and technology run down information.
The 9000 series will be the high-end TV with adaptive ambilight, 3D ready and features Philips 400Hz technology. It will be a full LED vacklight model, meaning the LEDs are in clusters behind the LCD panel and dimmed locally in groups. The 9000 is available in 32in, 40in, and 46in with the top sized model being the 21:9 TV.
The 8000 series Tv has almost the same features but is uses edge LED backlighting to the sides of the LCD panel. It will be available in 37in, 40in, 46in and 52in sizes. It will come in a glass frame and has 200Hz technology on board.
The 7000 series is also edge litand will share the same ambilight technology as the 800, which is two sided spectra 2. The 9000 will feature a three sided version. The 7000 series will have 100Hz technology.
There will be one model of remote control that is designed to cover all the ranges and be easier to use. Most of the new models also feature a redesigned menu system.
We will update this story with more information when we get it.
