Toshiba UK and the The English Football Association (The FA) have announced a new partnership that will see Toshiba UK become the official consumer electronics supplier to the England football team, to and through next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Finals.

Official Press Release

Toshiba UK and the The Football Association (The FA)  today announce a new partnership that will see Toshiba UK become the official consumer electronics supplier to the England football team, to and through next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Finals.

Toshiba will amplify the partnership, which kicks-off on 16 November, with an integrated marketing programme including retail promotions, online campaigns and experiential activity – all designed to build buzz and engage with football supporters around the UK.

As part of the agreement, Toshiba will supply the England team and The FA with a range of the latest LCD TV, Portable DVD and laptop products; helping to keep the players entertained off the pitch and aiding their pursuit of peak performance.

The announcement builds on Toshiba’s rich heritage of sports sponsorship, which includes the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany and the Rugby World Cup 2007 in France.

“For football fans, there is nothing quite like being immersed in the action at a live match. Toshiba technology can replicate that experience – whether that’s watching the game at home on Toshiba’s range of LCD TVs, or keeping up to date on the move via one of our wide range of laptops. Toshiba can bring each pass, foul and goal closer to the viewer with sharper, richer, smoother images” said Matt McDowell, Marketing Director; Toshiba UK.

“2010 is set to be the first time many UK viewers will get to watch the FIFA World Cup™ in HD and Toshiba will bring this superior experience to life for football fans, at home and for the England squad in South Africa. We are thrilled to get behind the England football team and offer fans a winning experience.”

Sean McAuliffe, The FA’s Head of Business Development notes “Enhancing the on-screen experience of watching football is a vital way to increase loyalty and support for the England team – particularly as we approach the FIFA World Cup™ Finals. The FA is delighted to welcome Toshiba as an official supplier to the England team. The advent of HD TV means that fans everywhere will now get to feel the magic of live football, and Toshiba will play a central role in delivering this enhanced experience.”

Review: LG 15EL9500 OLED HDTV

OLED TV, it’s the future. Well that is what we’ve been told for the last 5 years, at least. However, it seems to have taken longer than anticipated for the technology to mature and develop and yet, even now, large screen sizes are still technically difficult to manufacture, with an acceptable lifespan and failure rate.
